The final Super Smash Bros Ultimate DLC fighter is the legendary keyblade wielder, Sora from Kingdom Hearts

During the final Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Mr Sakurai Presents live stream today, Masahiro Sakurai revealed that the latest, and last, addition to the monumental fighter will be Sora, from the Kingdom Hearts series. Sora arrives with his iconic outfits, his keyblade, and the iconic Mickey Mouse chain even makes an appearance.

Square Enix developed Sora and the Kingdom Hearts series, but many Disney characters including Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and more are important characters in-game. Licensing the character for Super Smash Bros must have been quite the task, as Disney themselves own the copyright. Sakurai revealed during the presentation, that during the 2016 fighters ballet, Sora was the most requested character overall, so he worked hard to make it happen.

Sora arrives with four different outfits, pulled straight from different Kingdom Hearts games, as well as separate colourways. DLC Fighter Pass 11 will also include several spirits, but noticeably, these are all Kingdom Hearts characters, not any Disney owned personalities.

In terms of fighting style, Sora swings with his keyblade, but also uses magic as his neutral special. Spells include Blizzaga, Fira, and the long-range attack Thundaga. Sora is a light character, so he’s easy to launch, but has a strong counter, and can zone guard effectively with his ranged magic attacks.

The song list contains nine tracks, including Night of Fate, Destiny’s force, Shroud Dark Cloud, Hand In Hand, and a special arrangement of Hand in Hand from the original composer as Sora’s Super Smash Bros victory theme.

The new level is Hollow Bastion, a floating stage that covers many areas from the Kingdom Hearts series. When low on time or stock, the level will change to an area called Dive To The Heart. Here, images of Riku, Roxas, Xion, Terra, Ventus, and Aqua appear in the background in the distinctive stain glass art style of the series. We also got a look at how Kirby will look when copying Sora’s abilities, and frankly, it’s adorable.

Sora and the DLC Fighter Pass 11 will arrive on October 19, alongside Mii Fighter Costume pack 11. The latest Mii Fighter costumes include Splatoon outfits representing the Octolings and Judd the cat. The final Mii Fighter costume is a long-requested fighter, the Doom Slayer from DOOM, who appears as a Mii Gunner.

Finally, Nintendo also announced that amiibo based on Minecraft Steve, and Alex, will both release in Spring 2022. Amiibo figures are expected for the rest of the DLC fighters, though we don’t have any further information right now.
