Nintendo just put two of the best Zelda games on Switch

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Seasons Nintendo Switch launch definitely came as a surprise, but it’s a welcome one given how great these games are.

The art is a spherical icon with Link, a blonde boy with a sword wearing a green tunic and cap, white tights and brown boots, standing in the middle with not-to-scale faces and bodies of other characters collaged around him.

Nintendo just shadow-dropped two of the most beloved non-mainline Zelda games to the list of Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy games. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Seasons Nintendo Switch launch adds to the long list of the best Zelda games now available on the console, though it also highlights a slightly infuriating issue the Switch has at the moment.

Let’s start with the good stuff first, however, that being the videogames. Oracle of Ages came out in 2001 for the Game Boy Color, as did Oracle of Seasons – they both came out at the same time and for good reason. These two games can link together and feature exclusive content not available in the other, just like a Pokémon game. These two games aren’t just the same game slightly tweaked, they actually play quite differently, so it’s worth giving them both a go.

The slightly irritating that’s starting to show with Nintendo is the drip-feed nature of all these classic games. Sure, Nintendo likes to keep us kids hungry, but as we near the end of the Switch’s lifecycle, all these leftovers just make me think how nice it would’ve been to have all these classics at once. Maybe I’m just a glutton, but still – this would’ve been perfect last Christmas, Mr. Nintendo.

Anyway, enjoy my favorite Oracle of Seasons song below, and its space-age, forward-thinking bassy synth rising beneath it all. That’s all we really need for now.
